Kids of all ages will find something to enjoy at the 2018 London Model Engineering Exhibition, which will be held at Alexandra Palace from 19-21 January 2018.
From marvelling at the working Meccano displays or watching Tamiya radio-controlled trucks tackle an fabulously detailed obstacle course to flying model aeroplanes with the BMFA - the family-friendly event offers a wide range of entertaining activities.
Robot Wars Series 10 finalist Anthony Pritchard and his team from Robot Wars creators of the famous ‘Behemoth’– will make a special guest appearance with their robot on the Tamiya Truckin stand. Not only that, but Brickish – the club for adult LEGO fans – will be there, as will Fairy Bricks, which donates LEGO sets to children’s hospices and hospitals. LEGO fans will be in their element!
For the real youngsters the Imagineering Foundation stand is like an interactive science lab, featuring modelling experiments to inspire children into the exciting world of engineering, science, and technology. Perhaps one of your family will discover a passion for engineering that they never knew they had!
Proving that it’s never too early to start, the Eastleigh Young Engineers will be providing inspiration aplenty via a display of their models. Pat Hendra started it as a free children’s club during the school holidays, and such was its popularity that it quickly grew into a weekly fixture for kids between 8 and 16 years of age. Their models are all built from scratch, without using kits, and their exhibits in London will include boats, cars, a tricopter and even a self-built and self-designed 3D printer.
The last of those was built by Angus French, who has also designed a six-axis computer-controlled robotic arm. To do that, he had to make his own CNC milling machine!
There will be inspiration and entertainment aplenty at the south’s biggest showcase of modelling and model-making, with almost 2000 models on display. You’ll be able to revel in modern fare such as remote control trucks, boats, aeroplanes and helicopters, as well as traditional engineering such as scale steam locomotives, model ships and traction engines.
You can make your way through Alexandra Palace’s different zones, trying the many activities and enjoying fascinating technical demonstrations. Prepare for your imagination to be well and truly fired!
With so much to see and do under one roof, The London Model Engineering Exhibition is a great day out for all the family whatever the weather!
