Social Media Enabled RFID Passes for VIP Visitors to Social Media Week
VIP visitors to Social Media Week London were this year given the ability to update their social media accounts using RFID enabled passes. The events’ official Social Sharing Sponsors Excelerated Apps provided the service via their UpD8r platform.
The RFID chips inside the passes were linked to the UpD8r software, which allowed each individual user to select which of their accounts the system linked with. By touching their pass to a Nokia device located in each session, badge holders were able to update their accounts on the Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn networks. Available at all of the sessions, the system was also used to help share exclusive content from keynote presentations that were exclusively for VIP pass holders only.
Social Media Week took place in multiple venues across London, with simultaneous events taking place in eight other major cities. The sessions covered the many facets of social media and the technology behind the networks. In some of the sessions, VIP’s were given the chance to have their photo taken in front of a sponsor’s board, which was then posted to their social media accounts.
Richard Smith, Co-Founder of Excelerated Apps, says that the early statistics appear to show that the system was highly successful in terms of the reach it generated: “Of the 2,000 or so VIP pass holders, the stats show that approximately 600,000 individual accounts were reached. This is an excellent return and the perfect way to highlight the very essence of what Social Media Week was about.”
“We’re delighted to see more events taking up this technology, which is now well established in turning event attendees into social media advocates.”
Delegates who registered for the VIP pass could configure their accounts during the registration process or via any Internet enabled device using a unique code printed on the reverse of their pass.
