London Motorcycle Show zooms over to Excel
The London Motorcycle Show is to take place at Excel in 2007 after running for a number of years at Alexandra Palace.
“The MCN London Motor Cycle Show is the largest and most profitable exhibition in the automotive exhibition portfolio, so the change of venue has been subject to some extensive research,” says consumer exhibitions director at the show’s organiser, Emap Automotive & Active, Peter Ward. “For a couple of years research has highlighted concerns about the show from exhibitors and visitors. The move to a purpose built exhibition venue like Excel overcomes all of these problems and allows us to stage a more entertaining event for visitors.”
For his part, Excel’s deputy CEO and MD exhibitions, Kevin Murphy, is excited about the move both on a professional and personal level.
“Clearly there is a personal interest,” he says. “I have been a keen biker for years, and therefore a visitor to the event and have listened to fellow visitors talking about what sort of venue they’d like for the show. It’s a show that we can help develop which is something that is obviously good for both Excel and Emap.”
Alexandra Palace head of sales and marketing, Chris Gothard, is sorry to see the show leave.
“It is very sad to be saying goodbye to the show. From its inception back in the 1980s it has grown from strength to strength at Alexandra Palace and visitors and exhibitors alike have shown their enthusiasm for the show and its venue by attending in ever greater numbers,” he says. “The continued growth of the show has finally outstripped the palace’s ability to accommodate it, and while I wish it well at Excel, given the very real challenges it will now face, I suspect there will be many who will regret the passing of the ‘Ally Pally Motorcycle show’. I feel it will not be too long before the roar of finely tuned dream machines are heard again around the halls.”
The London Motorcycle Show takes place on 1– 4 February 2007.
