Conference record year at SECC
The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre says 2006-2007 was the best year ever for its conference sales sector.
The venue saw 52 events staged, up from 50 in the preceding financial year and these were attended by 54,001 delegates that generated 245,077 delegate days. This represents a 25 per cent increase on delegate days in the previous period under review and a 19 per cent boost in delegate numbers.
“We’ve enjoyed an excellent year, our staff are highly experienced and we’re also in the unique and fortunate position to have such a close working relationship with our partners in Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and the other industries that support conferences in the City,” says director of conferences, Ben Goedegebuure. “It creates a cohesive working partnership that we refer to as Team Glasgow and it’s a proposition that I believe is securing Glasgow’s position as one of the best conferences destinations in the world. There’s a lot happening at the SECC and in Glasgow and there’s a real vibe about the city. Only last year, readers of Condé Naste Traveller voted Glasgow winner of the Favourite UK City category and we’re going from strength to strength.”
