<p>A number of businesses working in the waste disposal sector cited the high cost of the capital as they announced plans to host a rival conference to next year's Environmental Services Association and the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM) Futuresource event. </p><p>The CIWM only recently announced that it is to host its 2009 conference in London rather than in Paignton in Devon as it looks to attract international exhibitors and delegates. </p><p>However, a disgruntled group of businesses feel that such a move would in fact prove counter-productive as many industry professionals are put off by the increased cost of a capital conference. </p><p>According to one breakaway company, the recycling plant manufacturer Hinowa UK, around 70 per cent of 2008's exhibitors would prefer to remain in Torbay and many have already voiced their support for their breakaway Plant and Waste Recycling Show, which will be held in the coastal town. </p><p>In response, CIWM chief executive Steve Lee has stated that the dissident exhibitors are "free to do what they want". </p><p>"Next year will be an exiting opportunity to build a modern, forward looking conference exhibition in partnership with the Environmental Services Association.
