<p>Mervyn Davies, the minister for trade and investment, has made a visit to a new conference venue in Cambridge, reports the Financial Times.</p><p>Investigating the effects of the global downturn, the minister was shown around a local success story in the form of Marshall Airport. Recently refurbished and expanded, the airport has had an aviation centre added to it at a cost of nearly £5 million, while event organisers can find a conference centre and a so-called 'executive handling facility'.</p><p>The minister toured a variety of additional businesses in the city which have managed to score successes against the background of the tumultuous economy, although executives voiced their concerns that the city is beginning to suffer from a lack of venture capital. </p><p>Nevertheless, corporations in the region remain optimistic, despite some experiencing reductions in sales.</p><p>Alistair Brown, chief executive of technology consultancy Sagentia, told the paper: "People are talking about being in a position of being able to dominate coming out of this recession."</p><p>According to the Engineer Online, Cambridge Consultancy will be showcasing wireless platforms at the Consumer Electronics Show (Ces) in Las Vegas.<br/><img alt="ADNFCR-1753-ID-18997139-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1753&it..." /></p>
