Event organisers using 14 venues across Sheffield have generated £12 million worth of business tourism for the city's economy, according to the latest research.

A study conducted by Sheffield International Venues, which owns the portfolio of facilities, showed that 890 events held in the last year brought in 151,439 business tourists and £12.7 million.

Among the venues owned by SIV are Ponds Forge, Don Valley Stadium and Sheffield City Hall, with the latter generating £7 million alone though events such as the NHS Yorkshire and Humber Health and Social Care Awards and the International Documentary Festival Bash.

"SIV's outstanding and varied venues are located across the city providing one of the widest choices of event space in the UK," said Dominic Stokes, general manager of SIV conferencing and events and City Hall Sheffield.

Meanwhile, Stuart Quin, director of the Harrogate International Centre, recently suggested that improvements to services Leeds Bradford International Airport would boost business tourism in the town.
