Exhibition stand bookings for BTMS see upturn

Organisations within the business and travel industry are optimistic for the coming year, despite being hit hard in 2009, according to an expert.

David Chapple, event director of the Business Travel and Meetings Show (BTMS) 2010, said that there has been an uplift in the mood of the industry.

This has been reflected in an upturn in bookings for exhibition stand space at the BTMS from regular, new and returning clients, he added.

Budgets have been cut this year, customers have reduce the volume of travel and have downscaled from business to economy flights, as well as four-star to three-star hotels, which has been a problem for the sector over the past year, Mr Chapple continued.

However, recent statistics suggest that this could be set to change as almost 69 per cent of travel managers expect travel volume to grow in 2010.

The National Business Travel Association survey found that 51 per cent of managers expect their outgoings on journeys and hotel stays to increase next year.
