Plan for success at your next exhibition or trade show
Whether you are exhibiting at a large, professional trade show or a local village fair here are a few simple tips that will ensure you get the most out of the event.
First things first, choose the right event for your company. Research into all the relevant shows in your area, check out where your competitors are exhibiting and find out all you can about the exhibition or show’s target audience.
Choose your stand location early. Get a copy of the event floorplan and look for stand spaces that are close to entrances, exits or meeting places like cafes or bars to ensure your stand will be seen by the largest number of people possible.
Don’t go alone. Even it is a small local fete; take someone along with you to manage the stand while you take breaks. Leaving a stand unattended, even for a short period, reduces your ROI from the event. Whoever you take with you, make sure they know about your business, products and objectives for the event.
Use the event to network. Take time to network both with visitors and other exhibitors. You can get a lot of ideas from seeing what other exhibitors bring to events and how they market themselves, and it can be very worthwhile building up contacts within your industry. You can also build great relationships by suggesting a relevant non-competitors stand to visitors, and they may return the favour.
Design a great stand display. Make sure your stand is eye-catching and well-lit, your brand is easily recognisable and your message or products are instantly visible. Avoid clutter and keep to one clear message or focus.
Give out branded freebies. Exhibitions can be extremely busy and overwhelming so whether it is a business card, a branded pen or something more out of the ordinary, give your visitors something to take away with them that will remind them of your company.
Your aim when exhibiting should be to get as many possible customers’ contact details as possible so that you can follow-up post show. Some people can be a little reticent to hand over their contact details so a great way to attain the information is to hold a little competition. Get people to give you their business card or contact details by entering them into a prize draw to win a product or service related to your company. Something like this provides a great talking point at the event and by announcing the winner you have gained a great reason for following up after the event.
Prepare your follow up material in advance so that you can be sure to get any emails or post out in a timely manner. You will also be very glad of this when you arrive home after an exhausting event with hundreds of new leads to contact.
We hope that you have found these tips helpful and will keep them in mind when exhibiting at your next event.
