Edinburgh event organisers secure £5.2m worth of conferences
Edinburgh has managed to secure ten new conference bookings in the past month, ending the year on a high.
Figures from the Edinburgh Convention Bureau showed that event organisers have managed to secure £5.2 million worth of shows in recent weeks.
The largest event of the ten, which will be held over the next two years, is the International Congress of the European Hernia Society, which is expected to attract 1,500 delegates in November 2011.
Sue Stuart, chief executive of the Edinburgh Convention Bureau, said: "The past 12 months have been challenging but we have helped deliver significant economic benefit for the city."
The news follows the announcement that the Edinburgh International Conference Centre will benefit from an £85 million expansion.
Plans were approved by councillors on December 9th and will see banqueting facilities extended and a moving floor installed in the auditorium to allow the space to be converted for exhibition use.
