De Boer celebrates Channel Tunnel Rail Link party contract
London & Continential Railways (LCR) commissioned De Boer to supply temporary accommodation for a massive party to celebrate the completion of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
De Boer provided 13,000 square metres of temporary structures beside the embankment just north of St Pancras International station in London. The party for 2,100 people connected with the project, was held on 19 September, 2007, two months before the new high-speed link opens to the public on 14 November 2007.
“To construct a structure this size in the heart of central London has been extremely exciting and a wonderful challenge,” said De Boer project manager Ross Robertson.
A total of 550 working days were needed to create the structures over three weeks. A massive Delta structure standing nine metres tall was flanked by two smaller Delta structure annexes. The complex was also linked to a big Alu Hall covering an area of more than 3,500 square metres.
The complex of structures played host to a dinner, exhibition and musical performance by members of the cast from West End hit show “We Will Rock You”. Guests were also treated to a fireworks display outside.
The event was organised by LCR and co-ordinated by John Quartermaine of Future Events, who commented: “De Boer offered the best service and the structures used are perfect for what we needed. On a task this size you need someone you can trust to deliver the project.”
