Basingstoke development plans could include conference facilities

Conference facilities may be included as part of a £1.5 million renovation project on a business district in Basingstoke.

Deane Borough Council is currently considering spending the money on improving Basing View by building a new hotel in addition to the potential conference facilities. The objective would be to revitalise the area in question and provide an incentive for businesses to visit the town by offering high-quality resources suitable for corporate events.

Council leader councillor Andrew Finney told thisisbasingstoke.co.uk: "I have given a call for action sooner rather than later in the form of something visible for people to see."

A significant amount of money is currently earmarked for landscaping in the area and making the district easier on the eye and more appealing to event organisers, while the council will also meet to discuss the potential economic benefits of new construction.

Separate plans for a hotel in Chineham have thrown doubt over the project however, as this would largely cater for existing demand.

Meanwhile, basingstokegazette.co.uk reports that a housing scheme in Houndmills may be reduced in size owing to local opposition to the new build.
